The CSIOC community gathered for a vibrant and meaningful workshop titled Bridging Generations: Empowering Seniors Through Social Inclusion & Volunteerism. The evening brought together seniors, volunteers, resource persons, and distinguished guests for an enriching three segment program focused on Digital Literacy, Healthy Recipes, and Healthy Ageing.
Opening Session
The program commenced with a heartfelt prayer led by Rev. Riaz Malik, setting a tone of unity and gratitude. Prof. Naved Attaullah, CSIOC Finance Director, welcomed participants, introduced CSIOC’s mission, and outlined the evening’s workshop segments. He then introduced the main resource person for digital literacy, Mr. Ronald Umer Khitab, a qualified and experienced Electrical Engineer well versed in digital technology.
Segment 1: Digital Literacy – WhatsApp for Community Connection
Led by Mr. Ronald Umer Khitab
Through an engaging PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Khitab explained the management and operation of WhatsApp, one of the world’s most widely used social media platforms. Using simple, accessible language, he demonstrated how seniors can use WhatsApp to stay connected with their community both locally and globally.
He highlighted common mistakes users often make and provided practical guidance on maximizing the benefits of digital communication. A hands on practice session followed, during which Mr. Khitab personally assisted participants, answering questions one on one and ensuring everyone felt confident using the application.
Segment 2: Healthy Recipes – Simple, Colorful, Nutritious Meals
Presented by Leena, Aruna, and Zeba
Three skilled and experienced culinary presenters—Leena, Aruna, and Zeba—shared easy to prepare healthy recipes using simple ingredients. Their colorful and appetizing demonstrations captivated the audience. The enthusiasm was evident during dinner time, where every dish was enjoyed and fully consumed by participants.
Segment 3: Healthy Ageing – Rewiring the Mind for Graceful Living
Led by Prof. Mumtaz Shah, Psychologist (Specialist in Healthy Ageing)
Introduced by Ms. Leena Attaullah, Prof. Shah delivered a powerful and deeply engaging session on healthy ageing. His presentation focused on how seniors can age gracefully by rewiring and reprogramming the mind, cultivating resilience, optimism, and purposeful living.
A highlight of the session was the inspirational story of Fauja Singh, the legendary marathoner who began running at age 89 and became the first person in history to complete a marathon at 100. This narrative deeply resonated with participants, reinforcing the message that healthy ageing is both possible and empowering.
Honoring Distinguished Contributors
Ms. Aruna Shah introduced Prof. Dr. Allen Umer Khitab, the 89 year old Professor Emeritus and Chief Guest of the evening. Prof. Khitab graciously presented Certificates of Honor to:

CSIOC Updates & Community Appeals
Dr. Tanveer Joseph, Chair of CSIOC, addressed the audience with updates on CSIOC’s achievements and ongoing humanitarian efforts. He highlighted the case of Sajid Masih, a persecuted and vulnerable young man enduring severe physical and psychological hardship while awaiting immigration to Canada. CSIOC is actively fundraising to cover his immigration expenses and urgently seeks community support.
